Orig. bildtext... SIR EDWARD APPLETON, vice Chancellor of Edingburgh University and a radar pioneer, was today (Friday) installed in office as President of the British Association for 1953. The ceremony, performed by the retiring President, Professor A V Hill, took place at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. This is the first time in the long history of the British Association that one Nobel Prize winner has handed over this important office to another - Professor Hill was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1922, and Sir Edward Appleton the Nobel Prize for physics in 1947.
