John Dalton, English Chemist

John Dalton (September 6, 1766 - July 27, 1844) was an English chemist, physicist, and meteorologist. He is best known for introducing the atomic theory into chemistry, and for his research into color blindness. A New System of Chemical Philosophy, first published in 1808, was a milestone work in the history of chemistry, in which Dalton announced his revolutionary atomic theory and laws of definite and multiple proportions and laid the foundation for the advancement of chemistry in the 19th century.
