Circos, Circular Genome Map, Arabidopsis thaliana

Arabidopsis thaliana was the first plant to have its genome sequenced. The overall distributions of non-B DNA motifs in all the chromosomes in each species are plotted using Circos. Circos is used for the identification and analysis of similarities and differences arising from comparisons of genomes. Although the right-handed double helical B-form DNA is most common under physiological conditions, DNA is dynamic and can adopt a number of alternative structures. Active transcription necessitates strand separation and can induce such non-canonical forms at susceptible genomic sequences. It has been speculated that these non-B DNA motifs can play regulatory roles in gene transcription. Colour code chart: Short Tandem Repeats (orange), Inverted Repeats (brown), Direct Repeats (purple), A-Phased Repeats (bright green), Mirror Repeats (red), Z-DNA Motifs (dark green), G-Quadruplax Motifs (light blue), Genes (dark blue).
