Thurgood Marshall, American Lawyer

Thurgood Marshall (1908 - 1993) was an African-American lawyer and civil rights activist. He is remembered for victory in Brown v. Board of Education, a decision that desegregated public schools. President Johnson nominated him to the US Supreme Court and he was confirmed by the Senate in 1967. He was the 96th person to hold the position, and the first African-American.
