In Old World Valitta -- Maltese Woman wearing the Faldetta or "Hood of Shame". The "Hood of Shame" is still worn by Maltese Women. The headdress cape known as the Faldetta has a curious appearance and history relates the women were ordered to wear them for a 100 years as a penanee for their lack of charity at the time when Napoleon's troops were stationed in Malta in 1798. Although the Century has long since past the picturesque fashion has not lapped. January 04, 1936. (Photo by Fox).
