Harold Edgerton. Portrait of Harold Eugene Edgerton (1903-1990), American electrical engineer and high-speed photographer. Born in Fremont, Nebraska, he became a faculty member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In about 1931 he developed the high-speed electronic stroboscope. He used it to develop techniques of high-speed photography, using it to capture the action of such things as drops of milk falling into a saucer and bullets travelling at up to 24,000 kilometres per hour. He also applied his techniques to a wide range of scientific fields, including production testing and sonar research.
