Massive demonstrations against the regime of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlevi in autumn 1978 . During the most violent riots since those of "Black Friday" (September 8), nearly 50 to 60,000 young Iranians, especially students and high school students, took over the main streets of Tehran for almost 10 hours. They burnt down many public buildings, hotels, banks, shops and cars. Soldiers aboard an armored vehicle observe the protesters. Photo, November 5, 1978.
