Demolition of the long walls of Athens, Greece in 403 BC. The Long Walls constructed in the mid 5th century BC in several phases to connect Athens to its ports at Piraeus and Phalerum. Around 6 km in length, they were destroyed by the Spartans in 403 BC after Athens' defeat in the Peloponnesian War. From Hutchinson's History of the Nations, published 1915.
