Cirrocumulus Undulatus Clouds

Cirrocumulus undulatus clouds at sunset. Composed of ice crystals, these high-level clouds occur between 6000 and 14,000 metres. Their pink tinge is due to the reddish light of sunset reflecting off the bottom of the clouds. Their rippled appearance led to their being name undulatus (undulating), which occurs due to wind shear. If they increase in coverage, they are indicative of an approaching frontal weather system.
