Franz Joseph Emil Fischer, German Chemist

Franz Joseph Emil Fischer (1877-1947) was a German chemist. He and Hans Tropsch discovered the Fischer-Tropsch process (synthesis) a set of chemical reactions that convert a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen into liquid hydrocarbons.With Hans Schrader he developed the Fischer Assay, a standardized laboratory test for determining the oil yield from oil shale to be expected from a conventional shale oil extraction.
