Reconstruction of the crustacean Canadaspis perfecta from the Middle Cambrian Burgess Shale of British Columbia, Canada. One of the most common and completely-known animals in the Burgess Shale fauna, this shrimp-like crustacean had a series of segmented walking legs with attached gill flaps (pink) used both for swimming and for respiration. The length of the carapace ranged from 10 to 50 millimetres in length.
