Siege of Bryan Station, Kentucky Militia,1782

Bryan Station was an early fortified settlement (approx. 40 log cabins) in Lexington, Kentucky, that withstood several American Indian attacks. The most important occurred in August 1782 during the American Revolutionary War, when they were besieged by Wyandots, Lake Indians, Shawnee, Delaware Indians and British Canadian Rangers, under Captain William Caldwell and Simon Girty, making a total force of 400-500 in Colonel Daniel Boone's estimation. The attackers lifted the siege after Indian scouts reported that a force of Kentucky militia was on the way. Story of the Wild West by Buffalo Bill, 1888 (cropped and cleaned).
