Título: Gideon Mantell, Paleontologist
Descripción: Ver traducción automática
Gideon Algernon Mantell (February 3, 1790 - November 10, 1852) was an English physician and paleontologist. In 1822 he and his wife Mary discovered the first fossil teeth of Iguanodon in the chalk downlands of Sussex. Mantell's attempts to reconstruct a fossil Iguanodon began the scientific study of dinosaurs. Mantell continued to work on Cretaceous findings in southern England. In 1841 he suffered a debilitating spinal injury, the result of a fall from a carriage. A post-mortem revealed that he suffered from scoliosis. The study of his malady led to advances in the diagnosis of the disease. This image, based on an engraving from a painting by Samuel Stepney (1837), has been colorized.
