Robert Cedric (RC) Sherriff (1896-1975), English playwright, novelist and scriptwriter, born at Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. Best known for his play "Journey's End" (1929), an account of life in the trenches in World War I . His film scripts include "Goodbye Mr Chips" (1936) and "The Dambusters" (1955).
