Stephen Samuel Wise (1874 - 1949), American Reform rabbi and Zionist leader. He was a founder of the New York Federation of Zionist Societies in 1897. Wise worked in close cooperation with Theodor Herzl. In 1914 Wise co-founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Wise served as founding president of the World Jewish Congress president until his death in 1949.
