Color enhanced Scanning Electron Micrograph of a Radiolarian skeleton. Radiolarians are amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons. They are found as zooplankton throughout the ocean, and their skeletal remains cover large portions of the ocean bottom as radiolarian ooze. They come in many different forms. This specimen, a sphere with large holes, has been broken to reveal a tiny internal sphere. Magnification: 800X at 5x7".
