Servant girl in Caen. She wears a tall bavolet bonnet, and carries a basket. In the background can be seen the fish market and part of the church of Saint Pierre. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
