Du Velours Bleu (Blue velvet) auricula, Primula auricula, with moth. Handcoloured copperplate botanical engraving from "Nederlandsch Bloemwerk" (Dutch Flower Arrangements), Amsterdam, J.B. Elwe, 1794. The artist of the fine plates is a mystery: the title bouquet has the signature of Paul Theodor van Brussel (1754-1795), the Dutch flower painter, and one auricula is "drawn from life" by A. Bres. According to Hunt, 30 plates show the influence of the famous French artist Nicolas Robert (1614-1685).
