Heating sodium chloride

Heating sodium chloride. A crucible with sodium chloride (table salt, NaCl) is heated over a Bunsen burner flame. Sodium chloride is an ionic compound that has a high melting temperature, 800.7 C. Since sodium chloride in this setup does not reach this temperature, no apparent changes to the compound are evident.
