Architectural relief (Amazons with Gorgonian shield), clay, hand modeled, pressed, pressed into the mold, clay, Total: Height: 26 cm; Width: 31 cm, ceramics, architecture, Gorgons, Amazons, ornaments, Medusa head, High Hellenistic, Late Hellenistic, This architectural plate represents a preliminary stage of the so-called Campana reliefs. Comparable pieces were found in Metapont. The image field is closed at the bottom by a palmette band and at the top by a geison. To the left and right are half a palmette with a lancet leaf each, which prove that the plate was part of a repeat. Three holes in the picture field were formerly used for the attachment. No traces of paint have survived. Depicted are two Orientals standing opposite each other, kneeling and holding a round shield with a Gorgoneion. The Orientals are probably Amazons. They are dressed in long, belted robes, boots and Phrygian caps.
