Spotted-necked Otter

The Spotted-necked Otter (Lutra maculicollis), with its slender and streamlined body, webbed feet, and long tappered tail, is totally adapted to its watery habitat. Their short, sharp claws are useful for catching fish which they eat tail first, sometimes discarding the heads. Their name derives from the distinctive spots on their neck and upper chest. The Spotted-Necked Otter lives mostly in the Southern half of Africa. This individual was photographed at the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona.
