The Smilodon, also known as the saber-toothed cat or saber-toothed tiger, lived during the late Pleistocene (1 mya-10,000 years ago). It used its powerful forelimbs to ambush and capture prey, although its most distinctive feature were the dramatic canines (up to 7 inches long), serrated on the back edges, that it used to stab and slice its victims.
