In Buddhist mythology, the Yaksa (Yaksha or Yak) are the attendants of Vaiõrava·áa, the Guardian of the Northern Quarter, a beneficent god who protects the righteous. The term also refers to the Twelve Heavenly Generals who guard Bhai·£ajyaguru, the Medicine Buddha.
