Qixing Mountain, also spelled Qixingshan or Chihsing Mountain, (literally Seven Star Mountain) is located on the Datun Volcano Group and is the highest mountain in Taipei, at the rim of Taipei Basin. It is also the highest (dormant) volcano in Taiwan. Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a sovereign state in East Asia. Taipei is the capital city and a special municipality of Taiwan. Before the city was founded by Chinese immigrants in the early 18th century, the region of Taipei Basin was mainly inhabited by the indigenous people known as the Ketagalan.
