Cardinal Guillaume d'Estouteville (1403-1483), Bishop of Ostia and Cardinal Archbishop of Rouen. Artist: Mino da Fiesole (Mino di Giovanni) (Italian, Papiano or Montemignaio 1429-1484 Florence). Culture: Italian, Rome. Dimensions: Overall (wt confirmed): 14 1/8 in., 47lb. (35.9 cm, 21.3191kg). Date: third quarter 15th century. Cardinal d'Estetouteville (1403-1483), a rich French prelate, commissioned Mino da Fiesole to produce the marble ciborium in Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome, finished in 1461 and since dismantled, one of whose reliefs bears the cardinal's portrait. Our bust in high relief surely also occupied an architectural setting.
