Wheellock Pistol. Culture: German, Augsburg. Dimensions: L. 20 3/8 in. (51.7 cm); L. of barrel 13 7/16 in. (34.1 cm); Cal. .492 in. (12.5 mm); Wt. 4 lb. 4 oz. (1928 g). Date: ca. 1560-70. The sheathing of the stock in plaques of gilt copper with raised strapwork ornament is highly unusal but recalls clock cases, powder flasks, and other decorative metal objects made in Augsburg.
