Southampton: A "Portrait of PL" by Francis Bacon, being carried aboard the Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth II at Southampton today. The portrait, one of the most valuable of over 100 paintings, to be shown in an exhibition in the world's first floating art gallery aboard Queen Elizabeth II. The gallery run by Marlborough Fine Art, is one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of British 20th century art ever to be held, and comprises work by over 20 British contemporary artists, including paintings and sculpture by R.B. Kitaj; Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Graham Sutherlan. The inaugural exhibition will continue fro approximately six months. Prince in the Cunard Marlborough Gallery will range from £13 (about $30) to £35,000 ($84,000). 12 March 1969.
