Theotokos of Vladimir, a famous Byzantine icon, painted in egg tempera on wood in the 12th century. It is displayed in Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery. The Theoktos, also known as the Virgin of Vladimir, Our Lady of Vladimir, or the Vladimir Madonna, is considered the most important icon of the Comnenian period, since, with its less rigid, more human style, it represents a turning point in the history of painting.
