SOCIAL HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY experiment of additive color synthesis performed by the Scottish mathematician and physicist James Clerk Maxwell (3 June 1831 - 5 November 1879) with a triple magic lantern, which produced a congruent projection. From his experiments with the overlap of red, green and blue filters, color photography originated. Engraving, United Kingdom 1859.
