The Pisa cathedral, or Duomo, and its belltower (campanile) known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, seen here in the 19th century. Campo dei Miracoli, or Field of Miracles. Also known as the Piazza del Duomo. The 11th century Cathedral was designed by architects Buscheto and Rainaldo in the Pisan Romanesque style. Designed by Bonanno Pisano in the Romanesque style, construction began on the Leaning Tower in 1173 and was completed in 1372. From Les Plus Belles Eglises du Monde, published 1861.
