The Pinwheel Galaxy in Ursa Major, also known as Messier 101. With a visible diameter of 170,000 light years, M101 is one of the largest disk galaxies known. A unique feature of the Pinwheel Galaxy is the large number of extremely luminous H II regions that populate its spiral arms.
