HELMET

Helmet. Culture: Mesopotamian or Iranian. Dimensions: H. 9 1/2 in. (24.1 cm); W. 7 3/4 in. (19.7 cm); D. 7 7/8 in. (20 cm); Wt. 3 lb. 10 oz. (1644.3 g). Date: 4th century. The helmet, originally lined with leather, consists of broad bands of bronze and iron plates covered witha thin layer of silver, stamped with a feather pattern. The warrior's head would originally have been obscured and protected by a web of metal links of mail that hung from the holes in the lower rim.
