Detached Flintlock alla Fiorentina. Culture: Italian, Bargi. Dimensions: H. 2 3/4 in. (7.0 cm); W. 5 3/4 in. (14.6 cm). Gunsmith: Sebastiano Cecchi, called Acquafresca (Italian, Bargi, 1619-1692); or Matteo Cecchi, called Acquafresca (Italian, Bargi, 1651-1738). Date: dated 1679. This lock is the earliest dated piece by the Acquafresca, father and son, who were celebrated gunsmiths and masters of chiseling and engraving steel. Their patrons included members of the Medici court in Florence.
