The Bricklayers' Arms Railway Station [in London], after the Late Accident, 1850. 'The accident was caused by a carriage which was being moved round on the turn-table striking against the last pillar of the central row. This instantly snapped, as also did two others upon which a great weight was thus suddenly thrown; and a great portion of both roofs being thus unsupported, the whole fabric was torn away from the bolts by its own weight, and fell with a tremendous noise...The unfortunate man who was killed, on hearing the fall of the pillars at the lower end of the shed, attempted to escape into the station, but was knocked down by the falling materials, and suffocated by one of the supports falling across his neck'. An inquest found: "Accidental death, being killed by the falling of a roof of a certain shed...resulting upon a collision of a railway carriage against an iron column..."'.
