Kamehameha I (c1758-1819), also known as Kamehameha the Great, conquered the Hawaiian Islands formally establishing the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1810. The statue stands in front of Aliiolani Hale in Honolulu, Hawaii. The statue was the idea of Walter M. Gibson, a member of the Hawaiian government, who wanted to commemorate the centenary of Captain Cooks arrival on the Hawaiian Islands. From a postcard produced by The Island Curio Co., c1920.
