ARTHUR D. RENDALL. Sir Robert Montgomery (1809-87) c.1891, from the original of c.1866. A three-quarter length portrait, the subject standing and facing left. He is plainly dressed in a dark frock-coat; a red cordon supporting the badge of the Bath, the star of the same order upon his breast. On the table to the left lies an address from the principal residents in Lahore, presented to Montgomery upon his retirement; the carved ivory case in which the address was enclosed is seen in his left hand. In the background is the mosque of Dai Anga, the nurse of Shah Jahan, by whom it was erected at Lahore in 1635. c. 1891. Oil painting. 56 by 44 ins (142.5 by 112 cms). Source: Foster 246.
