Pea soup, or a pea souper, aka black fog, killer fog or smog was a very thick and often yellowish, greenish, or blackish fog caused by air pollution that contained soot particulates and the poisonous gas sulfur dioxide from all the coal fires which were burning in London in the late 19th century.
