1921, Peachum costume design by Claud Lovatt Fraser (1890-1921), (an artist and designer) for The Beggar's Opera, based on the production at the Lyric Theatre (Hammersmith, London), in 1920. The Beggar's Opera by John Gay, 1921. John Gay (1685-1732) was an English poet and dramatist. He is best remembered for The Beggar's Opera (1728), set to music by Johann Christoph Pepusch. The characters, including Captain Macheath and Polly Peachum, became household names.
