Yatagan with Scabbard

Yatagan with Scabbard. Culture: Anatolian or Balkan. Dimensions: L. with scabbard 31 1/8 in. (79 cm); L. without scabbard 29 in. (73.7 cm); L. of blade 23 1/8 in. (58.7 cm); W. 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm); Wt. 1 lb. 14 oz. (850 g); Wt. of scabbard 1 lb. 10 oz. (737.1 g). Date: dated 1802-3. The yatagan was popular throughout the Ottoman Empire. It is distinguished by a single-edged blade that curves slightly inward and by a hilt with no guard and two flared wings at the pommel.
