Negative - Cataract Gorge, Launceston, Tasmania, circa 1900, The Duck Reach hydro-electric generating station in the second basin of the Cataract Gorge near Launceston. There are steps up the cliff face on the right and a suspension bridge in the foreground. Flume and penstock are above the station. This was the first hydro-electricity station in the world used to provide power to a city and first operated in 1895. In 1929, the station was largely destroyed.
