Terracotta lekythos (oil flask), Classical, 2nd quarter of the 5th century B.C., Greek, Attic, Terracotta; red-figure, H. 5 1/2 in. (14 cm), Vases, Winged youth and bird. The identity of the winged figure and of the scene as a whole is unclear. The figure is most often called Icarus or Hypnos. The former seems more plausible, given the contorted pose of the figure and the position of the bird that suggests a precipitous descent.
