J WEBBER. A dancing girl (of Otaheite). Drawn by John Webber and engraved by John Keyse Sherwin. A girl dancing in a long gown with highly puckered ruffs of tapa attached to the back of the waist and feathery pompons covering the breasts. Several long tassels are hanging from her waist, and on her head is wearing a headdress of plaited hair ormanented with blossoms of Cape jasmine. A mat of rushes has been laid to dance upon. In the background is vegatation and a thatched building. A collection of drawings by A. Buchan, S. Parkinson, and J. F. Miller, made in the Countries visited by Captain James Cook in his First Voyage [1768-1771], also of prints published in John Hawksworth's Voyages of Biron [Byron], Wallis, and Cook [1773], as well as in Cook's second and third Voyages [1772-1775, 1776-1780]. 1768-1780.
