"Odysseus and the Daughters of Lycomedes" (c.1520) by Baldassare Peruzzi (Italian, 1481-1536). Fearing his death in the Trojan war, Achilles' mother disguised him as a woman and sent him to live with the daughters of King Lycomedes. Odysseus tricked Achilles into grabbing a sword and shield when a trumpet sounded, thus revealing his disguise. Here Odysseus stands at the left, inviting the king's daughters into the palace. This scene appears in Homer's Iliad, which tells the story of the Trojar War.
