Athlete or hero ('Kritian Boy'). From Athenian Acropolis, 480-470 BC. A naked youth stands with the weight shifted more on to one leg - for the first time in a statue. The more natural pose and serious expression are marks of the revolutionary style of the period 480-450 BC. The statue was probably dedicated to Athena.
