Death of General Lindsey (after the Battle of Edge Hill - 23 October 1642 - the first major armed conflict of the English Civil War) - George Cattermole. Robert Bertie, 1st Earl of Lindsey (17 December 1583 - Edge Hill 24 October 1642). Lord Lindsey was shot through the thigh bone on 23 October. His son, Lord Willoughby tended his father by lying him on a heap of straw in the nearest shed trying to staunch the blood.
