Nicolo Paganini (1784-1840). Artist: Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (French, Montauban 1780-1867 Paris). Dimensions: 9 7/16 x 7 5/16 in. (24 x 18.5 cm). Date: between 1818-31.
Ingres was himself an accomplished violinist, and met and befriended Paganini by playing second violin in a performance with him. Ingres apparently drew three portraits of Paganini. This embellished counterproof is said to have been made for the engraver Calamatta.
