Astronauts Michael Foale, (l), Edward Lu, (center), and cosmonaut Yelena Kondakova, (r), training on a launch pad at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. This was during a Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test, ie a launch rehearsal. Here they are practicing emergency escape procedures. Foale was preparing for a stay as the guest researcher aboard Mir. Foale joined the Mir group during mission STS-84, and staying until he was picked up by mission ST-86, (September-October 1997).
