Woodcut portrait of witch-finder Mathew Hopkins

Mathew Hopkins (d1647) witch - finder of Manningtree, Essex, England. In 1645 Hopkina had 60 people executed for witchcraft in Essex alone. He fell under suspicion himself and was 'swum' as a witch. He floated so was found guilty and executed. Woodcut circa 1830.
