Vicovaro, Italy. War between Paulo IV (1476-1559) and Philip II of Spain (1527-1598). The castle of Vicovaro was occupied by Vespasiano I Gonzaga (1531-1591), commander of the imperial troops. On February 14, 1557, the pontifical troops reconquered it after a continued siege for fifteen days, returning to obedience to the Holy See. Italian engraving, 16th century. Later colouration.
