Earthrise

The Apollo 11 Lunar Module, carrying Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin, performed the historic lunar landing on 20 July, 1969. The third Apollo 11 crewmember, Michael Collins, remained in lunar orbit in the Command and Services Module. This view of earthrise was taken from the Command Module Columbia. This picture was taken shortly after Earthrise as Columbia was passing over Mare Smythii. In looking at Earth, Australia is at the left, just above the lunar horizon.
